Timor Leste Children Attend Eucharistic Adoration in St.Peter’s Church

Eucharistic Adoration, an hour of privileged time in appreciation of the gift of the real and total presence of Christ among us in the Blessed Sacrament and affirmation of HIS personal love for us, was introduced to us when Fr. Moses became our Parish Priest in 2004 and ever since then, the parishioners have been given the beautiful opportunity of spending some time in the Blessed Sacrament to grow in Christ and to deepen our living of the Eucharist Celebration in all its fullness, on Wednesdays from 7.00-8.00pm followed by Mass in the Portuguese Settlement and on Fridays from 8.00-9.00pm after Mass in St. Peter’s.

In the beginning , it was Fr. Moses who conducted the whole servive but all too soon with his help and guidance, some parishioners took over. And now Fr. Moses has entrusted the Adoration to the Extraordinary Ministers of Communion who come up with Prayers, Themes for Reflection, Hymns and the Psalms.

Last Friday’s, 3 Sept 2010, Eucharistic Adoration saw the presence of 15 young people from Timor Leste who had come to pray for their loved ones who had either been killed or tortured and humiliated in the civil war 11 years ago. It was a touching and poignant moment as they brought all their hurts and pain before the Eucharistic Lord. The children sang hymns in their own language and they were so beautifully rendered that many who were present (81) were moved to tears by the words translated in English, on the LCD screen. The children placed stalks of flowers in a vase on the alter table individually after prayers were said for their deceased and suffering loved ones.

PM's wife seeks return of Timor teenagers

THE wife of East Timor's Prime Minister has demanded an Australian woman return to Dili 15 Timorese teenagers who have been under her care in Malaysia for several years.

Kirsty Sword-Gusmao said the teenagers, who were taken to Malaysia ostensibly for medical treatment, should be brought back to East Timor. But Sydney woman Lala Noronha, 55, has told the Herald the teenagers do not want to return. ''It's not about me. It's actually up to the kids to say what they want to do,'' Ms Noronha said yesterday.

She said she had allowed the teenagers to stay in Malaysia because they told her they did not want to ''go back and be like'' other children from an orphanage she founded in Dili 10 years ago. She had received messages from Dili saying the children from the orphanage did not have enough to eat, were not attending school and two teenage girls had become pregnant.

Mrs Sword-Gusmao, a campaigner for women's and children rights, said she had repeatedly asked the Timorese government, through its embassy in Kuala Lumpur, to establish what Ms Noronha's intentions were for the teenagers, most of whom she said had at least one parent in East Timor.

She said living in Malaysia would be ''eroding the children's sense of belonging and sense of identity''.

''There are ample opportunities for these kids in Timor,'' Mrs Sword-Gusmao said.

The Dili orphanage Ms Noronha helped establish in 1999 has been closed and more than 15 of the children there were either returned to their relatives or put under the care of other families. Mrs Kirsty-Sword was the orphanage's patron, which helped Ms Noronha attract donors. In late 2006, when violent gangs were rampaging through Dili's streets, Malaysian peacekeepers flew one of the children to Malaysia for urgent medical treatment. Over the next couple of years more of the children arrived in Malaysia for treatment.

In November 2007 Timorese authorities stopped 27 children from the orphanage being taken to Malaysia after concerns were raised by the United Nations child rights agency UNICEF. Ms Noronha was waiting in Malaysia to receive them.

Mrs Sword-Gusmao played a role in stopping the children leaving East Timor, which she said prompted the criticism that she was ''the evil witch from the West''.

Speaking in Sydney, Ms Noronha said their future had to be ''sorted out.''

''If they [Timorese] want the kids back, they have to have a plan. What are they going to do with them?'' she asked.

Carmen da Cruz, the head of East Timor's child protection agency, backed Mrs Sword-Gusmao's call.

Malacca looking at ways to develop bilateral ties with Timor Leste

MALACCA: The state will look at ways to forge closer-ties with the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste following the two-day official visit of its president Dr Jose Ramos-Horta here.

Chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said one of the ways being looked at was affiliating Timor Lestes national youth body with the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) secretariat based in Malacca.

“Timor Leste’s national youth council can be affiliated with WAY. This will allow us to invite their youth representatives to participate in WAYs annual convention,” he said after attending a briefing with the president at the
Putra Specialists Hospital here on Tuesday.

He also said that the state would look at ways to help the island republic develop its tourism and agriculture industries including offering medical services treatment of chronic diseases.

“I urge private companies here to also consider venturing there as its is a new country that possess economic potential,” he added.

Earlier, Jose Ramos attended a briefing held at Kompleks Seri Negeri before visiting several sites of interest in the city.

The president was especially keen on visiting Portuguese Settlement in Ujong Pasir as Timor Leste was once a former Portuguese colony that traces its history to 16th Century Malacca.

He also met up with 16 Timor Leste youths, ages between 12 and 18, who have been undergoing medical treatment at the state owned hospital here since 2007.

Timor Leste grateful to Malaysia

MALACCA: Timor Leste President Dr Jose Ramos-Horta yesterday thanked Malaysia for helping his country since it achieved independence seven years ago.

He said Malaysia was the first country to set up an embassy in Timor Leste and helped to train his country's police force and acquire equipment.

"Malaysia had also strongly supported our application to become an Asean member.

"Their (Malaysia) peacekeeping forces also played an important role when there were disturbances in our country in 2006.

"We hope that, one day, we will be able to repay the kindness of the Malaysian government," he said after visiting the Putra Specialist Hospital here.
He is on a five-day official visit to the country with a 10-member delegation.

He also attended a briefing on developments in the state by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam at Seri Negeri and took a cruise on the Malacca River.

Mohd Ali said the state government was prepared to assist Timor Leste in various fields, including education and agriculture, apart from inviting their people to visit and seek medical treatment in Malacca.

We are Timor Leste children who have never ever ever think that we could go overseas. Not even overseas, we could only dream that WANTING TO GO TO SCHOOL. We came from villages in Timor Leste. Since we met Ibu Lala in 1999 and our President Jose Ramos Horta in May 2006 and the Malaysian Army and Police in Timor Leste now we can be here now in Malaysia. We were very proud to be able to show our Flag and singing Timor Leste Anthem infront of Malaysian Community who are very generous to support us! We are so proud that we could introduced our beautiful country and culture to Malaysian people! Even though there was a very bad media publicity in Timor Leste and in Sydney in November 2007 regarding us being sold and kidnap by our mother Lala in Malaysia, you could see us in our blog and what we are doing! Hi ! Do you know about how the Timor Leste children who live in Malaysia?These children are us. Do you want to know how we celebrate our Timor Leste 6th Independence Day?At the Independence day we made a celebration.We invited the Catholice Community who live in Malacca, never we will forget to invite the Ambassador of Timor Leste for Malaysia Mr Juvencio Martins, we also invited all the Malaysian Army and Police who were looking after us in Timor Leste.Regarding food, we didn't have to worry, we had CHEF ON WHEELS came especially from Kuala Lumpur. Eventhough we are from different country, they did not differentiate who we are but these people are supporting us strongly! In the celebration we did Timor Leste Culture Performances. All guests were very happy! We were very happy and proud!Ambassador Timor Leste Mr Juvencio Martins gave Thank you recognition to all those people who are supporting us by giving them Tais Salendang. On Saturday the 9th of June, we were invited by Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) to be participated in Fund Raising Festival for Monfort College. This is a Catholic technical college. 3 boys will be going to study in this college. We tried to do the best to promote Timor Leste. Mana Mada cooked and Torres made Timor Leste's Cakes.The girls made Timor Leste handicrafts. We made soapboxes, Pencil Boxes and Notebooks all these made from Tais. Mum teaches us how to make handicrafts. We can do it nowAll the visitors had to buy coupons before they buy food and handicrafts.SSVP gave us coupon so we could participate in this festival. Each of us got 10$ Malaysian. We were very happy coz many people look after us and help us. Monfort College Director came to us and he was very happy and he promised that he is going to come to our house. The Director said this college's door is open for these Timor leste children Food and Handicrafts sold very quickly. We took turn to look after our Timor Leste stand. Every one of us had a chance to look around. Lot of people came to our stand, as they wanted to know us and to know Timor Leste also to help usThank you for reading!

I am Torres Vidigal, first, I came to Malaysia to continue schooling, but if I have time I choose to play soccerI am very happy because I am not only playing against other Malaysian Clubs but also I played against Club from Germany, their club’s name is All Stars, also I played against a Singaporean ClubsI am so happy here because even though the club is small but everything is there so complete! How the clubs look after our health, physical, food, and other things to support to play professional soccer. Not only playing soccer and food, the club even provided a hotel room to stay and also swimming in the pool. For our health regime!I am also happy that I can play in Malaysian Stadium in Malacca, such as stadium Hang Tuah, Stadium Malacca Club. PANTI ASUHAN FHTO QUO VADIS, NASIB 15 OANK KIAK TERLANTAR

DILI-Panti Asuhan Fundasaun Hadomi Timor Oan (FHTO) di Pantai Kelapa, Dili, kini terancam bubar. 15 anak yatim piatu yang saat ini tinggal di sana terudung resah, merasa binggung dengan nasibnya, karena tiada “bapa asuh” atau “ibu asuh” yang datang ke sana melihat keadaan mereka.

FHTO didirikan beberapa tahun lalu oleh Ir. Mariano Sabino ‘Asanami’ (kini Menteri Pertanian, Kehutanan dan Perikanan), Lola Noronha, dan Lorenco Amaral. Sedangkan pelindungnya adalah Ny. Kirsty Sword Gusmao.

Tujuh dari lima belas anak yang ditemui STL di Pantai Kelapa, Sabtu (14/6), mengaku sangat resah dengan keadaan FHTO saat ini. Mereka merasakan adanya firasat tidak baik dengan kelanjutan nasib FHTO. Sejak krisis meletus, perhatian kebutuhan hidup dan bantuan dana kepada mereka sudah sangat kurang. Hingga kini pengurangan itu kian mengkhawatirkan.

Khwatir dengan keadaan yang dihadapi, tujuh anak asuh FHTO masing-masing Francisca, Mariano, Hendrique, Anastacio, Elsiana, Joni dan Nelson memberanikan diri mengeluarkan undangan kepada media massa (cetak dan elektronik) untuk menpublikasikan masalah yang mereka hadapi. “Karena kami mendengar para pendiri ingin menutup FHTO. Jika benar akan ditutup, kami mau dikemanakan, mau tinggal dengan siapa,” ujar ketujuh anak yatim piatu itu.

Isi undangan yang dikeluarkan itu adalah, mereka ingin mengundang wali orang tua anak yatim piatu dari beberapa distrik untuk menghadiri pertemuan di Aula Escola Internasional, Pantai Kelapa, guna meminta penjelasan para pendiri FHTO. Hari pertemuan ditetapkan hari Sabtu (14/6), namun pada hari yang ditetapkan ini tidak ada yang memenuhi undangan mereka, termasuk para pendiri FHTO. Alasannya tidak jelas, bahkan tidak ada informasi sedikit pun.

Seorang staf juru masak FHTO, Maria da Costa, menuturkan, para pendiri Panti Asuhan ini beberapa kali melakukan rapat tertutup di Pantai Kelapa, Dili, untuk membicarakan masalah yang sedang dihadapi itu. “Desas-desus yang sempat terkuak dari rapat tertutup itu mengatakan, para pendiri ingin menutup FHTO karena dana untuk membiaya anak-anak yang diasuhnya sudah tidak ada. Dan 15 anak di FHTO Pantai Kelapa dikembalikan kepada orang tua wali masing-masing,” kata Maria da Costa mengutip desas-desus itu.

Ia sendiri sudah 11 bulan menjadi juru masak untuk anak-anak FHTP di Pantai Kelapa. Namun baru tiga bulan ia diberi gaji. “Namun gaji yang didapat bukan jatah saya tetapi jatah dari seorang juru masak yang sudah keluar,” katanya.

Ia mengaku sangat khawatir dengan nasib 15 anak-anak FHTO saat ini. Perhatian para pendiri terhadap anak-anak Oan Kiak saat ini sudah tidak jelas. “Kalau FHTO benar-benar bubar saya tidak tahu 15 anak yatim piatu yang ada saat ini mau kemanakan”. Lanjut Maria, jumlah anak-anak Oan Kiak di FHTO sebanyak 30 orang. Namun beberapa bulan lalu 15 orang dikirim ke Malaysia sekaligus menjadi tanggungan pemerintah. Tinggal 15 orang di FHTO Pantai Kelapa.

Ke-15 anak-anak Oan Kiak ini juga pernah mau dikirim ke Malaysia namun kemudian dibatalkan pemerintah tanpa alasan jelas. Sehingga mereka tetap dalam tanggung jawab FHTO. Semua ditampung oleh FHTO ini merupakan anak-anak korban tragedy September kelabu, 1999. Mereka sudah tidak memiliki ayah dan ibu lagi. Kalau FHTO ditutup mereka mau dikemanakan. “Saya sedih mendengar informasi bahwa FHTO akan ditutup, 15 anak ini dikembalikan kepada wali orang tua wali masing-masing”. Kata Maria, sejak Januari 2008 dana untuk anak asuh FHTO sudah berkurang, bantuan dari kementerian sosial pun tidak aktif lagi. Tidak tahu apa alasannya.

Pendiri tidak pernah mengadakan pertemuan baik terbuka tau tidak terbuka!
Para Wali menginginkan agar para pendiri hadir pada pertemuan tanggal 14 Juni, namun Pendiri Mariano SAbino menegaskan bahwa FHTO tidak boleh ditutup karena tempat ini harus digunakan untuk anak anak miskin yang membutuhkan perlindungan
Selama ini Mariano SAbino dan Ibu Lala yang masih membantu uang dana tambahan untuk anak anak FHTO yang masih berada di Timor Leste.
Ada Uang FHTO yang dideposito di Bank Mandiri sejumblah $ 20.000 yang pada saat itu di depositokan tahun 2005 atas nama FHTO dengan tujuan untuk masa depan anak anak. Setahu kami uang itu masih harus ada di BAnk! Sepatutnya uang itu dapat di pakai oleh anak anak FHTO yang masih berada di Timor Leste saat ini!

Pernyataan kami anak anak yang berada di Malaysia adalah "Sangat menyedihkan sekali sebuah Media yang cukup besar untuk Timor Leste, namun tidak profesional dalam memberitakan berita beritanya! Sengaja atau tidak di sengaja, seharusnya sebagai dasar journalistik, harus selalu ada cek dan ricek! Sepertinya artikel ini di buat hanya untuk menghibur kelompok tertentu saja!
